Well that is it, I am going!

So I made my decision to go and join whoever had made the same decision as I had on this amazing trip. I booked my flights via Easyjet to Jordan, deciding to treat myself to a week in Jordan after my sojourn in Palestine. The only decision then I had to make was what skill could I take with me? What could I do that could be of use out there?

In my everyday life, I wear two hats. One is as a nanny to a premiership footballer, I couldn’t really see this as a skill I could give to people out there, but my other ‘job’ is as an holistic therapist, which includes treatments such as Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Reiki.

“Ah Reiki” I thought, “that is the skill I would like to share.”

Reiki is a form of healing, some perform it hands on some hands off, and it means Universal life force or Energy. You need no belief system for it, or any training as such as Reiki is in all of us. We all know how we feel when we have the touch of a kind hand on us, sometimes all is needed is for that touch to tell you that that person is there for you, and that is what I would like to take with me to Palestine.

I did worry whether Reiki would fit in with Islamic thinking, but after discussing with a friend who is Muslim, and is a Reiki healer, I was convinced that this would be the right thing to do. Next question I had in my mind was, “How was I going to describe and explain the philosophy behind Reiki, to others in a language I do not speak?” Next solution….my friend Hazel who is also the lady who initiated me into my Reiki mastership, had a Reiki book written in Arabic, if fact even better than that, she had the e-mail address for the woman who had written it. Then to top it all, and this convinced me that Reiki was what I was supposed to be doing out there was that this lady had taught Reiki numerous times out in Palestine. I made contact via e-mail, and  after a few mails back and forth she rang me, offering to send me approximately 20 of the books she had in Arabic. (I only hoped for 1 or 2). Barbara Gaunt offered me a wealth of advice on what I am going to undertake but has convinced me I will be doing the right thing.

I will initiate a few women into the first level of Reiki 1, which really is self healing. Most of the work needs to be done on yourself, afterall, we need to be balanced before we can help others. If nothing else, this process will give the women some self empowerment, and may even lead on to a little business or sharing opportunity for those in the village we are stopping in.

The first thing anyone who undertakes a path of Reiki will learn are the five basic principles.

Just for today I will live the attitude of gratitude

Just for today, I will not worry

Just for today I will not anger

Just for today I will do my work honestly

Just for today I will show love and respect for every living being.

Imagine a world where we all can live by these principles on a daily basis. Until my next post, bye x

About shakingtheshadowsfromtheolivetrees

I have a massive case of wanderlust and plan to see as much of this beautiful planet as I can before I die. I love Egypt, which gave me my first taster of Arabic culture, since then I have travelled to a few Arabic-speaking countries. My idea of a nightmare is an all inclusive 5* hotel resort. I much prefer to stay in basic accommodation in amongst the locals. Some of the best food I have eaten has been street food...and incidentally some of the worst has been in a 5*hotel. This year has given me the opportunity to visit Palestine, a place I loved to read about when I was younger in my children's bible. I am sure it isn't going to disappoint.

We all just need to take that small step forward everyday and we can get there…

  2. Hear hear! That’s a great thing to take with you, and anywhere you go in fact.

I didn’t know anything about Reiki. Those five basic principles blew me away. If only the world could take that on board. If only…
Good luck with your journey and with taking your skill 🙂
